Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2013 - May

Hello, Crafty Peeples!
I decided to go ahead and make the May tag even though I did not have the Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs or the Word Bans.  Since I am quite sure I would never win one of these challenges, I am really just trying out the techniques with whatever supplies I have on hand.  I did order the Remnant Rubs because I like the look and may want to use them on a future project.  To see Tim's Tag, click here.

I decided to use a rub on sheet I picked up (2 years ago) at Big Lots for $.25.  I also found another el cheapo rub on sheet in my stash and decided that the "birds on a limb" would look pretty cool so I added them to my tag.  Because these rub ons varied in color and letter styles, I thought they would add lots of interest once the stains and inks were applied.

One really cool element of this TH tutorial is the methodology used to make images appear to be either above or below the rub ons.  Image stamped onto the tag and then wiped down with a soft cloth seem to receded beneath the rub ons.  To make the image appear on top of the rub ons rather than wiping the ink down, you use your heat tool to "raise" the image.

To give the tag a  bit of a patina, I mixed a small amount of Tim Holtz' Metallic Distress Paint to my Distress Stains.  I used Tarnished Brass, Brushed Pewter, and Antiqued Bronze.  I absolutely love the way the "birds on a limb" rub on resisted the stains and the neat way the butterfly image appears beneath it.

The Umbrella Man appears to be above some elements and beneath others...sweet.  I was also pleasantly pleased to find in my stash, a strip of Washi tape with all the right colors.   I found the little gear brad while looking for something else and I also found the little screwhead brad that fit perfectly in the middle.  I luvvvv my stash! :D)

If you are surfing for creative ideas, TH's 12 Tags is a wonderful place to visit.  Some of the tags are just phenomenal.   Tomorrow I will share a project that I created using a tutorial from one of Tim's favorite designers.

Thanks for stopping by,
Many mega hugz,
Chana
