DECOART - "The Downton Abbey" One Horse Open Sleigh

Hello Crafty Peeples!

A while back, I applied to the Blogger Outreach Program over at DecoArt.  I was excited when I was accepted and am now delighted to share with you my first project!   I really enjoyed working with these products,  The ease of application and the beautiful colors ensure that every project will be an unqualified success!

THE STORY OF THE ENABLER
My husband, whom I affectionately refer to as "The Hubster," is probably my biggest enabler and my best "picker."   He always has an eye out for objects that I can Alter, Up-cycle, or Restore!   Wednesdays and Fridays are discount days at the local Goodwill Stores and my husband can usually be found trolling the isles looking for "stuff."  This wooden sleigh was one of his finds.  He presented it to me saying, "surely, you can do something with this!"   I wasn't nearly as "sure."
I looked at this sleigh and tried to imagine what a "Downton Abbey" sleigh would look like!
The sides of the sleigh are decorated with Americana® Decou Page Paper™
Victorian Romance Collection.
The great thing about chalk paint is it eliminates the need for a primer.  I painted the entire body of the sleigh with the Americana®Chalky Finish "Serene." (originally I wanted the sleigh to be a bluish green.) and it only took one coat.
To achieve the color I wanted for my front and back panels and the sleigh runners, I mixed  Americana® Decor Chalky Finish "Vintage" with  DecoArt® Dazzling Metallics™Festive Green.  The paints mix well and I was able to keep my color consistent.  I did add an extender to give the paints extra air time.

The Floor and footboard were covered with Americana® Decou-Page Paper™
Victorian Romance Collection. The flower on the cushion was cut from the Decou-Page Sheet

The seat and bench coverings, and pillows were created using DCWV Burlap Paper, embossed using WRMK Next Level Embossing Folders "Quilted."  The interior side walls were painted with Americana® Chalky Finish "Vintage", and  "Serene."
The rails and bar were stained using Tattered Angels™  "Clay and Bittersweet" Matte Mist and sealed with Americana® DuraClear™ Matte Varnish.

The back panel was embossed using WRMK Next Level Embossing Folder "Butterfly."  The back was also stained using Tattered Angels™"Clay and Bittersweet" Matte Mist and sealed with Americana® DuraClear™ Matte Varnish.

The entire sleigh was sealed using Decou-Page™ Sealer and DuraClear™ Matte Varnish!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hugz,
CHANA
