Stacked - Tuesday Alchemy

Tuesday Alchemy Photo Inspiration Challenge
Our Sponsor

Theme - TRAVEL (with suitcases)
This week at Tuesday Alchemy we have a photo inspiration

The word Alchemy means to extract something extraordinary from the ordinary.
So I interpreted this photo as:
Stacked
I pulled some of the colors from the suitcases, but my main design aesthetic is things stacked on top of one another.  All of the embellishments are mounted on foam dimensionals.  The stacked books are, I suppose, the primary element that relates back to the inspirational photo.  The books are the suitcases.

My mother was an avid reader and she taught me that the greatest Travel on earth could be done in a book.  She was a bit of an Anglophile and I became a huge fan of British Authors.  Growing up, I traveled all over the world without ever leaving home.   Later on in life, it was fun to actually visit some of the places I read about and find that the writers had painted such an accurate picture, that I felt as though I had been in these places before and my journey was a return trip.

I try not to be too literal when working with photo inspiration.  It wouldn't matter, anyway, because my mind has a mind of its own and would never allow me to engage in Literal Interpretation.  What would be the fun in that?  Hope I didn't get too deep for ya!  :D)

I am having the best time making crinkled ribbon and coloring it with my Ranger Re-inkers.!!!

Thanks for taking a look!

Bring On The Bling - Outlawz Greetings Challenge

Hi, Crafty Peeps!

If it's Monday, then I must be posting my Outlawz Greetings Challenge project!    Brenda Turner is hosting the challenge and has challenged us to Bling Up our entries.  This was such a fun challenge  for me since I don't use a lot of BLING in my designs.  I still edited myself because I do believe it is so easy to overdo BLING. I  was learning a a new card technique: Shadow Box Easel Cards!  It takes patience, but is well worth the time and singed fingers.  Even DH was impressed.

I was inspired by a design project from LeAnne of Luvlee Scrappin!
There are a few problems with this one, but for a first time project, I'm feeling really okay with it! My image should be a bit more recessed, but I thought it was too dark and would not photograph well!  The image is a cut out from the G45 Place in Time Collection.  The Banner is a sticker from that same collection!  The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Company.  The flower was handmade by "Yours Truly".   As some of you may have noticed, I have fallen in love with this style of flower.  They are so easy to make and so versatile.  This one is actually the "stopper" on my easel.

Perhaps tomorrow I can convince hubby to take a picture of the side and back so you can see the construction.  He also did not take a picture of the closed card.  Maybe he is angling for a raise. :D)

The image caused me to take a trip down memory lane.  My mother had several Fox Stoles and a Couple of coats with Fox Collars.  I remember being so afraid when she sent me to get her purse out of the closet.  I would run in, grab the purse (and because I have been a klutz for all of my life) I would usually trip and fall over the bedroom hassock or the chaise lounge.  I don't think my mother ever knew how much anxiety those trips caused me. (LOL)

Hi, Crafty Peeps!

This week at Eclectic Ellapu, we are challenging you to create a card for that special man (or men) in your life!  The design team has come up with some truly fabulous projects and I am sure you will find some ideas there to inspire you.  My card is for my son who is a Systems Engineer.  This is how he looks to my DIL most of the time!  He also looks like this to me whenever he visits!  :D)

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2013

Hi Crafty Peeps,

Well, here is my February tag for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2013!  I always try to incorporate elements into my designs that will make them uniquely mine.  I love the tag that Tim gave us for inspiration, and I figured keeping the Queen of Hearts as the focal would make my tag true to the inspiration, but then I could do me with all the other elements.

Okay so here is Tim's Tag:

And here is mine:

This project was featured on March 3, 2013

Here is how I created this project.

The Tag: The tag itself is made from corrugated cardboard.  Both sides were painted with Decoart Red and Silver Metallic Acrylic Paint.  The edges were then inked with TH Black Soot Distress Ink.

Queen of Hearts:  I took one card from a playing deck and inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink.  I  then covered a piece of heavy weight card stock with masking tape and embossed it using the TH Poker Face Embossing Folder.  After trimming the the embossed pieced, it was covered with red acrylic paint which was wiped off with a paper towel.  After the red paint was dried, a coat of black acrylic paint was applied and then wiped down and allowed to dry.

Bottom Border.  I cut a piece of card stock 2 3/4 inches by four inches and embossed it using the TH Love Set #2 embossing folder.  I cut off a one inch strip and placed it aside.  The remaining 1 3/4 inch strip was inked with TH Festive Berries and Black Soot DI.

I cut a 3/4 inch strip of G45 Core Impressions Timeless collection and sanded it down.  To this I attached a piece of twine secured by two brads.

Single Heart:  This is a chipboard die cut heart.  The frame was coated with Versamark and embossed with silver powder.  I embosed the heart, sanded it lightly to get the grainy texture.

It was nice being able to create my own faux metal embellishments.  I am also getting a big kick out of seeing what I can do with corrugated cardboard!

Nicely Done Designs - Challenge #6

Hello, Crafty Peeps!

I would like to invite all my followers to stop buy my Nicely Done Designs Challenge blog and play along.  The challenge runs for two weeks  February 23rd - March 8th.

The Mystery Box ingredients this week are pretty simple, and, there is a cool inspiration photo from which to draw colors, lines, etc.  For example, the brickwork at the top of the fireplace inspired me to use corrigated cardboard for the cover of my mini album.  The clip with with the pearls was inspired by the lamp on the table beside the fireplace and my flowers are a loose interpretation of the vase of flowers on the table.

HEALTHY HEART MONTH

Hello, Crafty Peeps!  The Greetings Team Challenge at The Outlawz this week celebrates Healthy Hearts!   We are challenging you to create a card using embossing and the color red.  I'm sure we all have some hearts left over from Valentine's Day.

The embossed butterfly on this card was created using Memory Box's Vivienne Butterfly Die.  The sentiment was stamped with VersaMark and heat embossed with Pirate's Gold Embossing Powder.  The red button was threaded with gold elastic ribbon and added to a scallop circle with a piece of foam dimension.

I hope you will stop by The Outlawz and play along with us in the Greetings Challenge and one or two of the other seven (7) weekly challenges!

Chana
