2020 Stash Party #20 - When You Know You Have Made An Ugly Card!

Hello, Crafty Makers!
This week over at Shopping Our Stash the challenge theme is
UFO (UnFinished Objects)
The idea is to use bits and pieces of projects you started but never finished.   We all have tons of those so no problem, except when those pieces don't come together.

I have noticed in a few FB groups new paper crafters are always asking about ugly cards.  Without fail, someone will say, "There is no such thing as an ugly card."  It is a nice sentiment but not a true one.  I have made my fair share of ugly cards.  Some I recognized right off the bat and others only after seeing them after days, weeks, or months have passed.  I still shiver when I think of a box of cards and stationery I once gave to my Rebbetzin. Oy Vey!

Anyway, I was already to use some "UFOs" for the SOS challenge.  In my mind, they worked together perfectly.  In reality, the project was a disaster and everything I did only made it worse.  Here it is for you to see for yourself!

The catastrophe began with my bright idea to use some practice blending sheets and a die-cut I leftover from another project.  I keep trying to make the design work.  I added bling, way too much bling.  I tried stamping a border in black to compliment the black ink of the sentiment.  I simply could not stop myself.  LOL!
This unfortunate heart was the result of a failed attempt to create my own stencil an mask.  Everything about this is just wrong!  Of course, afterwards I realized that I should have just used the die-cut and made a regular aperture card.  I should have left everything white.  Hindsight really is 20/20!

So there, the next time someone says there is no such thing as an ugly card, send them here so they can see just how wrong they are.

Needless to say, I did not use this as a DT card.  I decided to sit out this challenge!  This was not my first ugly card and it will not be my last.  It is however the first and last one I will ever post on my blog!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Love your post! I agree - I think we all have some projects that we are less than pleased with. I don't think your card is as bad as you think. Have a great day!

  2. Omy gosh, Chana. So many things I want to say. First of all, I am once again glad the only DT spot I have is one where I can literally make whatever I want without any guilt or stress of is it good enough. Otherwise, just don't see how y'all handle all that pressure. Secondly, this reminds me of the epiphany I had after years of scrapbooking all the then-current trends and styles including the one large photo and no journaling trend. I received my grandmother's scrapbook she kept as a teen. It was just photos and nothing else. So frustrating! No info. Did I care how it was decorated? No. And neither will my heirs who see my scrapbooks. My point being, your card is perfectly nice and pretty and original. That's what recipients see who aren't artists. They don't care!!!!!! Cut yourself a break, woman! You made a very nice card that someone will cherish receiving, I guarantee. All Love and Hugs! XOXOX

    1. Thanks, Aimeslee! Shopping Our Stash is one of those Design Teams where there is no pressure but I just couldn't! :D) But I agree about family and friends. My husband teases me to this day about the first card I made for an Outlawz Challenge. He will not let me throw it away, he safeguards that card with his life! Love and Hugz back to ya!

  3. Haha and another thing, dear sweet woman, I would much rather read about your creativity unleashed by trying make something work than see a "perfect" card and no explanation ANY day. I'm 64 years old and cannot do that anymore, LOL. Correction: never COULD do it. Heehee!! Hugs and I LOVE your card. XOXOX

  4. OH! I WISH I could say you are speaking nonsense! but, I can see where you are coming from. You're so brave to show it, I've always thought you did everything so perfectly and beautiful, to see even you can make errors is reassuring. Thank you.
    Take care

  6. I agree with you there are some moments when you finish something and you see it and you know it it's ugly, sometimes this thing happens because I think we are very hard on ourselves, I always try to be positive and if I can use it in another project or change it a way I like I do it, if not I throw away, at the beginning I felt guilty for doing this but with time I don't see it as a fail I see it as an opportunity to learn what it works or don't or what I like or don't.

Thanks for sharing what you think about this matter. Hugs, María.
