WOYWW #612 - Faux Leather Notebook/Journal Pages

Hello, Crafty Makers!
It is time for another round of blog visits for
What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!
Want to know more about this wonderful weekly blog hop?
My desk is super clean this week.  I am starting a new project using an old CD.  My colors are too muddy, so I am going to add another coat of Gesso and try again.  I am trying (and mostly failing) to complete a voice-over for my video about my Faux Leather Notebook.
I love my D-I-Y mat.  I taped together six (6"x8") Dollar Tree® cutting mats.   I have a mat that is 12"x24",  folds up, and only cost my hubby $6.00.

I was planning this card last week.  It is only fair to share the final outcome.
Faux Leather Notebook

I created this faux leather notebook in 2015. I never did anything with the blank signatures until now. I don't know much about creative journaling. I have been reading up and looking at samples. This is the first time I've tried it. My pages are not the typical "artistic" journal pages, but they are "ME!"

-----------------
Wisdom
Age speaks wisdom and age speaks the truth,
and the seasoned tongues are keen,
but give me the honeyed lies of youth
and keep my wisdom green.

Fire may burn and the burning may teach
the moth what candles are,
but let me grasp what is out of reach
and die en route to a star!

Hugz,
Chana Malkah
HAPPY WOYWW!

  3. What a great journal CHana - loving the pages so far too. There is no right or wrong way to create pages in a journal, just what suits you. Great idea to create a larger mat to work on too. Thanks for the visit. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #11

  4. I think your pages are plenty artistic. I also really like the faux leather. Nifty. My elephant is from a kit - Lidl is in the USA now, right? That is where I got it, along with the deer head (you can see that at the link) and a hippo and maybe a Lion? I forget - bought a stack of them years ago and not made them all. I think now I will!

    Have a great WOYWW!

  5. Morning Chana. That's a lovely little notebook - well done for getting it out again and doing things with it. I don't see anything wrong in those two pages! What are typical artistic journal pages? Is there such a thing - do your thing and enjoy!
    Take care. G-d bless.

  6. I do love that rainbow insert, that's my kind of image and sentiment, who wants to fit in anyway but my eyes were immediately drawn to the faux leather notebook cover, really beautiful now that's my kind of make all day everyday. I keep finding old makes that need a little love, i'm glad you brought this out to play and share with us all Chana, journalling is very mindful. Happy WoywW Tracey #4 xx

  8. Hi Chana! You know what, I LOVE the CD as it is, a bit grungy - but it's more important that you love it, so I understand if you want to brighten it up. The journal cover looks awesome too and well done for having a go at journalling. I totally agree that it should be something that's "you" - I always struggle when I try to copy someone else's style - being inspired is different. I hope you'll keep up your creative journalling -it can be a very rewarding way of expressing yourself - just follow your heart! xx zsuzsa #27

  10. What a result with your new big crafting mat! Clever idea to tape the smaller ones together and so cheaply too. You’ll get a happy feeling every time you use it. Love the notebook too, it really does look like leather!

  13. Great collection of projects on the go this week but I have to turn away from the lovely clean desk as it makes me feel terribly guilty because my one is never like that. I do however forgive you for making me feel so guilty Lol! and it probably wont make any difference because I have to face up to the fact that I am a scruff! Have a lovely week and happy woyww, Angela x19x

  15. Wow the mat is a great idea and such a bargain too, horrah.
Love the rainbow sprinkle card, think I'm much like that.
And your trip into creative journaling is super. Took me a while to get into it as I felt mine wasn't as good as others but mine is mine and so too with you and it's brilliant as well. So well done you.
Happy WOYWW and thanks for the visit BJ#1

  17. Hi China, I love your decorations. I must admit that “faux leather” sets my teeth on edge a bit. Sorry. It’s plastic. It may be a nice leather-effect plastic, and your journal looks nice. Enjoy it and ignore grumps like me 😏
    Take care and happy WOYWW

  18. Hi Chana, Ooh I love that faux leather journal cover you did the textures there look amazing and that is really smart to piece together smaller mats to fold them out of the way.

  19. I love you faux leather book. I think it’s more important that your journal pages are “you” than anybody else. Gesso is brilliant for starting again isn’t it x Angela #31

  20. Now that is a clever mat Chana, especially as it folds out of the way when you’re getting too messy with inks or paints. Clever you, gotta love a really practical bargain! Nice final outcome on the card, I particularly like the text stamp you’ve used on the inside. I not a journaler at all, so I admire your pages, they look pretty journal like to me, what a fab job you made of that notebook.

  21. Lovely projects this week, Chana. I love the card. I love making faux leather - I made quite a bit at one time, and used some of it to cover a mini-album I made about my dad for my niece - it was all made out of recycled materials. The paper for the faux leather was just scrap paper out of the office with typing on both sides - if it's only got typing on one side, it gets used for writing on! Ever frugal Shoshi... Your journal pages are just great.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  22. Love your homemade mat. Great idea. Also I don’t think there should be “typical” journal pages. You do you! I have a YouTube channel of my junk art journal and they are unique to me. If you get time or if you’re interested, take a peek. My YouTube channel is under my name, Dorlene Durham or go to my blog and click on the YouTube icon. Glad i visited even though it’s late.
