Earth Safe Finishes - Up-Cycled, Repurposed, Salad Dressing Bottle

Hello, My Crafty Peeps!

I have been focusing on Earth Safe Finishes'® Licorice Chalk paint, and it worked beautifully for this project.  I am also using the Ann Butler® Iridescents™ and find them to be the perfect complements for my faux metal pieces.

My previous ESF project (The Traditional Chinese Tea House Bird House) and this one,  are efforts to highlight the use of our products on large areas of small projects.  With this bottle, I really wanted the Licorice and not the faux metal label to be the dominant visual, and I think I succeeded!  I have more bottles, so I will probably try other color combinations in future products.

  1. Gorgeous upcycle! I am so impressed. No way anyone would think that was a salad dressing bottle in another life. I'm not familiar with this brand, but I'm glad to see someone making environmentally safe crafting products. There are so many products out there that are downright dangerous I just won't use them. I have to wonder if crafters even read the labels? Like mineral spirits, I see this recommended all the time for pencil coloring and it's so bad to breathe in! I gringe whenever I see it suggested.

  2. Thanks, Shani! I have an auto-immune disease, so I have to be very careful about everything I use. Until I started working for ESF, my husband had me looking like Mrs. Darth Vader every time I was in my studio. Most of the products I use now are VOC free. We rarely use "artificial" anything. Those precautions, combined with the fact that we are Orthodox Jews and maintain a Kosher home has gone a long way in helping me stay safe. Yeah, I don't get the mineral spirit thing either. Thanks for the nice comment. I have fabulous bottle from my probiotic brand. It is amber glass and my D-I-L and I are trying to figure out how we can re-purpose them. I think I am going to try candle holders. Be well!

  3. Chana, you are so clever. This altered bottle is gorgeous. I might expect to see it in a swanky decor store. And I LOVE that you made something beautiful while reducing waste going into a landfill site. Bravo!

  4. This is such a lovely project. I love up scaling old bottles or boxes. It is one of my favourite ways to craft :)

  5. Thanks, SP 24! I have a bunch of Amber Bottles that I hope to use. I want to find a way to preserve some of the amber glass and just add MM elements. I'm thinking......!
