613 Avenue Create - April 2023 Challenge: Anything Goes w/Optional Twist: Stencils

 Hello, Crafty Mates!

The Optional Twist at 613 Avenue Create this month is "Stencils!"

The first technique I learned when I started cardmaking was stenciling.  Of course, back then, we used mostly brass stencils and they were more for embossing than creating backgrounds.

Stencils remain one of my favorite crafting tools.

"Pinwheels"

I was flipping through my stencils, praying for inspiration, and I came across an old pinwheel stencil. I  figured I could use it to create a background for my pinwheel embellishment.
This pop-up pinwheel has been in my stash for years.  I added double-sided foam tape to the back to add depth.
I cut a wooden skewer in half before coloring it with Distress ink and dipping it into glitter glue!
The stencil pattern was repeated on the inside.

I loved playing with pinwheels when I was a child.  It is interesting to look back and reflect on how little it took to make me happy when I was a kid.  I guess pinwheels, yo-yos, bolo bats, and jackstones are just too analog for kids born into a digital world!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hugz,
Chana

  4. Hey! I'm getting to see your lovely card again! I saw it in your FB feed and now here for Ally's Angels! Your childhood sounds as idyllic as mine--jumping into a pile of raked leaves, hide-n-seek, playing post office and school, picking dandelions, etc. are those sweet pastimes of innocence. Your card is creatively brilliant! --Becca/DT
