A Single Layer of Love - Single Layer Card - Focus on Sentiment

Hello, Crafter Makers!
Last night I made two quick cards for my gallery at Splitcoast Stampers.
The real payoff for me is that both help me further my
2019 Personal Crafting Goals
~~~~~~~~
A SINGLE LAYER OF LOVE
This happy puppy was great fun to create.
I created an envelope for this card.
I used my very, very favorite Distress colors and my Mermaid Brushes.
Personal Challenges Met:
1. CAS Design
2. New Technique - Sponged background and Sponging w/stencils and dies, splattering
3. Antique Stuff - Heidi Swapp Mini Word Stencils, Honeycomb Corner Die
~~~~~
Supplies
White CS
Distress or other ink
Stencil
Die (with medium to large openings)
Blending Tool
Sponge
Masking Tape or Post It™Notes
Paint or Splattering Brush
Water
Easy Tutorial
1.  Cut a piece of white cs to A2 size (4.5"x11.0") and score at 5.5"
2.  Use Post It™notes or masking tape to cover approximately 1/4" on the top bottom and both sides on the front of your cs base.
3.  Using your blending tool, apply your first background color (I used Twisted Citron).  Start blending on the masking paper and gently work your way onto the face of your card.  Continue adding color until you achieve your desired pattern.  Leave a small spot near the center of your card slightly lighter in color than the surrounding areas.  My additional colors were Broken China and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxides.
4.  Position your die to the desired area (mine is in the upper lefthand corner) and use your sponge to apply the ink.  I used a light dabbing motion.  If you want a darker impression,
5.  Center your stencil on the colored area and use your sponge to apply ink.
6.  Remove masking tape.
7.  Choose one of your ink colors to use as splatter on your project. Vary the size of your splatter for a more artistic impression.  Size is determined by the distance and force.

Distress Inks used: Twisted Citron, Broken China, Cracked Pistachio, Fired Brick, Wilted Violet

Splish, Splash, and Splatter! CAS and A New Technique

Hello, Crafty Makers!
My CAS quest continues and
 the new technique this week is Splash and Splatter!
For some odd reason, I have always been splatter challenged.  It made no difference if I used a toothbrush, paintbrush, or the highly touted Tim Holtz Splatter Brush, my splatter was a fail.
Splish, Splash, Splatter
I cannot express how delighted I am to finally be able to create splatter on my cards.  Not only do I have splatter, but I also have splashes!  I owe a big thank you to Loll Thompson and her wonderful video.   This was my first attempt.  It was supposed to be a practice sheet only but when it was done, I decided it would be okay on a card.
The Big Splash
I love the large splashes.  The fun elements can be created using Distress Stain or paints.  The intensity of the splash can be changed by spraying water on the sponge applicator of the Distress stain or paint bottle.
Just to add interest, I dragged my paintbrush through one of the splashes that I created using the Distress Paint.   I love the illusion of a nucleus in some of the splashes.
I used two pieces of bookbinding waxed cord to create a frame for my sentiment.  In my stash, I found a scrap of glitter paper that was a perfect compliment to the green ink!  I applied a little Distress Ink around the edges, added a few crystals and called it a day!

A Place To Start - Challenge# 2-2019 - Inspiration Please! -Use an Inspirational Die or Stamp

Hello, Crafty Makers!
Today's Card was my second make for the "Inspiration Please" challenge at my new challenge blog A Place To Start.
MICRO CHALLENGE TO SELF
In February, I have challenged myself to do two things:
1) Close my eyes, stick my hand into one of the bins that store stamps that have not been used in 15 years or more and to use whatever stamp I pull out to create a card or tag or paperclip.
2) To create CAS and or Single layer cards for the entire month.
I probably will not be very successful with #2 because while I love and admire CAS creations when I try it, my cards just look empty.

May You Be Comforted
Sympathy cards are always challenging for me.  Since I am taking the time to create a handmade card, I do not want it to come off looking like a Hallmark® design.  As this design came together, first in my mind, and then on my board, I felt that with it I had succeeded in accomplishing my wish for understated elegance.  The stamp set that I used included a detached leaf stamp that was intended to be placed a short distance away to depict a leaf that had fallen from the stem but I elected not to use it.
I added a simple verse inside.  The stamp I used for the sentiment is from an old set by "My Sentiments Exactly" a company that is no longer in business.

Materials used:
Top Flight White CS (82lb) Smooth Finish
(75sheets, $3.93 @Big Lots.)

Thanks Beery Much - Inky Inspirations

Hello, Crafty Peeps!
Well, we certainly had a few exciting days here in Altanta!  Lots of snow and ice!  Today it was like Spring outside.  We have a saying, "if you don't like the weather in Atlanta....wait a minute!"  Hope the weather is better wherever you live!   This post is for the Inky Impressions Inspiration Blog.

Inky impressions Stamps has some of the most adorable images and quite a few great sentiments! Stop by the store and check them out!  I really love the Lili images.
I am using  "Lili With Berries"  and the "Thanks Berry Much" Sentiment

I really like the idea of making the sentiment the star of the show sometimes!  I am on a mission to use all my scraps, and I wanted to use this really cool piece of chevron card stock.

Using solid coordinated card stock, and leaving my sentiment white,  I created a deconstructed bow tie.  This simple focal draws the eye away from the bold chevron design and identifies the sentiment as the point of interest.

I placed the image on the inside and pretty much left everything plain.  I love this image!  I was drinking a blueberry smoothie while coloring her, so naturally her basket ended up full of blueberries.

One of the other things I want to focus on this year is making cards that I can actually mail or that I can mail without paying an arm and a leg for postage.

 This designer paper is very bold.  Normally, it would compete with your image unless you covered it with another matting layer or layered images and lots of embellishments, which I did not want to do.
 Paper is a powerful design element.  I wanted to work with this paper's design rather than have it work against me.
Images don't always have to be on the outside of your project.  Trying using them on the inside.  I think the person who receives this card will be pleasantly surprised by the cute little image on the inside.

Life's Moments - Outlawz Greetings Challenge

Hello, Crafty Peeps!
It is so nice to be back to crafting!  I am a little late posting for the Outlawz Monday Greetings Challenge.  I planned to be done earlier today, but we had a true scare here in Decatur, Georgia this afternoon when an armed gunman entered one of our schools threatening to kill as many people as possible.  This happened not so far from where I live and very close to an area where I used to live.  It was a terrifying having something like that happen here.   Anyway, none of the children or staff were hurt.  The school clerk was able to talk the gunman (a nineteen year old male) into putting down his weapon and emptying his pocket of all the additional clips and weapons he brought into the school.  Brave Lady. She told Diane Sawyer that she calmed him down by sharing with him some of the challenges she had faced in her life and how she had overcome them.  She convinced him that thing would work out if he would just put down his weapon, lie on the floor, and wait to be taken by the police.  It worked!  G-d is Good All the Time!   Anyway,  I changed the card I was working on and created this one instead!

The sentiment stamp is from Unity Stamp Company - Itty Bitty Stamp of The Week Club
My DH likes this shot he says it is more "Vintage".  The man has spent too much time in my Studio!
