AAA Cards CAS Game #138 - Along The Edge w/Optional Twist: Sewing

Hello, Crafty Makers!
~~~~
Today, I challenged myself to go to Paper Playful and create a project for the first challenge on the Sunday list.  Of course, I forgot that my challenge, 613 Avenue Create, was the first one listed.  Undaunted, I went to the next challenge AAA Cards.
~~~~
This project not only satisfies my goal of entering more challenges but also allows me to check off another CAS project as well as using an old die from my stash of dies.
~~~~
Sharing Your Toys
A very different wedding card!
The challenge requires that your focal image, grouping, die cut, etc. be located on the edge of our card.  I knew I wanted to do a wedding card and so I first played around with several heart stamps and dies but nothing really moved me.  And then, while searching through my die stash, I came across my mixed media dies and thought one of them would be perfect.  This was intended as a single layer card but I felt it needed more so I added a layer of printed paper behind the die cut!   I love the cute little kiddie quote and found it perfect for a more casual card sentiment for this casual card design.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will check out this fun challenge at AAA Cards!
Hugz,
Stuff I used:
Top Flight™ White Card Stock
Graphic 45® "Couture 6x6 Patterns and Solids"
Memory Box® Open Studio™ "Distressed Windham Collage" Die
Kaiser Scrapbook ® "Island Lagoon" Rhinestones
A Place To Start - Challenge# 2-2019 - Inspiration Please! -Use an Inspirational Die or Stamp
Hello, Crafty Makers!
Today's Card was my second make for the "Inspiration Please" challenge at my new challenge blog A Place To Start.
MICRO CHALLENGE TO SELF
In February, I have challenged myself to do two things:
1) Close my eyes, stick my hand into one of the bins that store stamps that have not been used in 15 years or more and to use whatever stamp I pull out to create a card or tag or paperclip.
2) To create CAS and or Single layer cards for the entire month.
I probably will not be very successful with #2 because while I love and admire CAS creations when I try it, my cards just look empty.
May You Be Comforted
Sympathy cards are always challenging for me.  Since I am taking the time to create a handmade card, I do not want it to come off looking like a Hallmark® design.  As this design came together, first in my mind, and then on my board, I felt that with it I had succeeded in accomplishing my wish for understated elegance.  The stamp set that I used included a detached leaf stamp that was intended to be placed a short distance away to depict a leaf that had fallen from the stem but I elected not to use it.
I added a simple verse inside.  The stamp I used for the sentiment is from an old set by "My Sentiments Exactly" a company that is no longer in business.
Materials used:
Top Flight White CS (82lb) Smooth Finish
(75sheets, $3.93 @Big Lots.)
Thanks for stopping by!
I hope to see your Inspirational entry over at
Shopping Our Stash Weekly Challenge - Use The Smooshing Technique
Hello, Crafty Makers!
This SOS Challenge features one of my favorite techniques: Smooshing!
Of course, I had to create two cards for this challenge!
Smooshing is a  fun way to create a "faux" watercolor look especially for non-painters like me. The technique works with all ink types.
I admire the work of Tammy Tutterow and was so happy when she joined Spellbinders® Stamp Designers.  This is my favorite, I think!
Stash Items Used:
Bazzill Basics - Hummingbird
Neenah - Natural White
Tim Holtz™ - Water Color Paper
Tammy Tutterow™ (for Spellbinders®) Be Sunny
Ranger Distress Inks: Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Shabby Shutters, Mowed Lawn, Scattered Straw, and Vintage Photo
Glossy Accents (just a drop)
Water
I laminated a piece of cardstock and used that as a proof sheet for mixing my colors.   I applied the ink directly to my acetate sheet, spritzed it with water and then "smooshed" it on the cardstock.
 ~~~~~~
 Smoosh, Splatter, Swipe and Emboss
Two years ago, I was a Guest Designer for ClearSnap®.  One of their partners at the time was Hot Off The Press™ and they sent this fabulous "Feathers" stamp set to all the designers.  I have provided the link to Paper Wishes which is the site for HOTP retail customers.

Stash Items Used:
Bazzill Basic - Wild Pansey
PaperTrey - White Cardstock
Paper Wishes™ "Feathers" Stamps w/Sentiments
Tim Holtz Rub On - Elements
ColorBox® - White Embossing Powder
 Distress Inks:  Milled Lavender, Scattered Straw, Dried Marigold, Cracked Pistachio!
Water
For this card front, I applied the ink to my laminated sheet, spritzed with water and then applied the diluted ink to the card front.  I wanted more control and I wanted to do more splashing, wiping and splattering than smooshing.  Some designers like to have a plan before they smoosh.  I just freestyle!

Happy Making!

Shopping Our Stash Weekly Challenge: Welcome Home - Peaches and Cream

Hello, Crafty Makers!
This week's theme at Shopping Our Stash challenges us to make a project that represents where we live or where we come from.  I was born in Pennsylvania, lived for nine years in Florida, and now call Georgia home.  I decided to go with Georgia because I have been in the Metro-Atlanta area since 1970.
 It should be no surprise that I decided to embrace
"The Georgia Peach and Cream"
I used one of my off-brand $2.99 dies to create this "Peaches and Cream" gatefold card.  I don't mind waiting for these dies to ship from China because the shipping is free and three dollars beats thirteen to fifteen dollars every time.  Actually, this set came with two dies this floral and a vintage lamp post die.
The vellum is such an elegant touch and I like the graphic tension that is created by using the rustic twine against the elegance of the rhinestone-bedecked floral and vellum gatefolds.   The Georgia Peach sentiment strip also brings another rustic element to the design. I think the project embodies the spirit of Metropolitan Atlanta a great mix of both rustic and elegant living!
I created my own peaches using a Ranger Blending Tool
 I simply could not represent Georgia without including a little "Pine Green" since we are also known for our Pine Trees.  I looked through my stash but did not have a single stamp or die of Dogwoods or of our fabulous Azaleas!
"The Official Georgia Peach"
These fun gatefold cards are easy to make and there is plenty of room to write long notes!
 Hello, from Decatur, Georgia!  We just love all y'all!

Shopping Our Stash - My Favorite Things - Faux Leather from Kraft Paper

Hello, Crafty Folks!
Kraft faux leather using basketweave embossing folder.
This week, at Shopping Our Stash, we want to see how you use your favorite crafting "things."  If you are anything like me, you have "hundreds" of favorite things so the most difficult part of this challenge will be the act of narrowing the choices.

Basic Materials Used: (to create faux leather)
Kraft Paper
Glycerine
Glue
Liquitex Professional Gloss Varnish
Distress Ink: Vintage Photo, Black Soot

Kraft/Faux Leather/ Traveler's Notebook
I made this TN as a birthday gift for my daughter.  The project allowed me to use my favorite technique, creating faux leather using Kraft paper, and several other of my favorites like embossing folders, ClearSnap Smooch Inks, and anything Tim Holtz.

I love how this process gives the designer a beautiful emboss on the front and equally pretty deboss on the back.
I used Tim Holtz® Distress Inks™to color the cover.  Almost all colors will work.  Sheena has a beautiful blue faux leather notebook on her YouTube channel.   The possibilities are endless.  You can use the regular DI no need to buy oxides, etc.  I used a clear acrylic sealer (three (3) coats) on both the inside and outside of my TN cover.

The sunflowers were colored using ClearSnap® Smooch™inks
The texture is determined by how much "scrunching" you do when your paper is wet.
Ink applied after the paper has dried can be used to add depth to specific areas of the design.  The embellishment was made using a slide and layering a brad on it.

Some Fun Stuff on The Inside
Creating the dashboards and inserts for this project also gave me the opportunity to use my new favorite thing, Stickers!!
This image actually reminds me of my daughter.
Gotta love the back of that blouse!
The backing on inside of the TN is muslin  I decided to leave it untreated and opted to create pockets using a printed acetate sheet.  I am just in love with this image.
Fun papers make interesting insert covers.
Pen Loop
 Another favorite thing, making pen loops.  This one was made from a piece of the faux leather shown at the top of this post

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the definitive faux leather process tutorial.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog.  Give this faux leather technique a try.  Also, visit Shopping Our Stash and check out my teammates' creations!
Clearsnap Coloring Book Page - Coloring with Inks and Chalks
Hello, Crafty Peeps,
I have taken another journey into the world of coloring book pages and I am so pleased with my results.  Thanks to the generosity of Clearsnap® and their partner, Hot Off The Press, I have tons of fabulous adult pages to explore and grow my skills.
I hope you find inspiration in this project.  The Hot Off The Press Coloring pages are great.  I liked the thickness of the paper which made me feel more confident apply color and the color did not bleed through.
I used ColorBox® Chalk Inks and Clearsnap® Smooch "pearlized" Inks to color this image.  You can find the tutorial HERE on the Clearsnap Blog.
Thanks for stopping by!
Be Fearless - Embossing Fun with ClearSnap® and Craftwell®
Hello, Crafty Peeps!
I am just tickled pink to have this opportunity to work with the  new Teresa Collins™ partnership products developed for
I am a lover of all things Teresa Collins and I usually purchase her 6"x6" designer paper pads in multiples of six each.  Now, I find myself addicted to her wood mounted stamps.  I knew this design needed a strong, bold sentiment. Teresa's "Be Fearless" stamp fit the bill perfectly.  It embossed perfectly and because the text is stacked, it set the tone for  the design composition.
My purpose for wet embossing a metallic powder over a dry embossed surface was to make an impact statement. Teresa Collins™Twill Herringbone embossing folder** delivered the impact and also helped achieve my design goals of deep impressions, texture, and structure.
I have used embossing powders to create faux metal embellishments and thought that process might work well here.  The first dress form was dry embossed and then wet embossed with the Herringbone EF, but the design seemed to be fighting the gingham ribbon so I chose the non-embossed version.  If you want to be adventurous, try paper piecing an outfit for your dress form!
**This is an A4 (8.27" × 11.69") Folder it is too large for the Standard Big Shot.
Creating your own background
Working with dark colors can be tricky.  Creating your own background design gives you creative control.   I wanted to stay in the "brown" color family but needed to bring some light into the design.  ColorBox® Cat's Eye Chalk Ink is great to work with and very versatile.  I used the "Yellow Citrus" ink to balance the "Burnt Siena" and Copper.  I also swabbed a little "Creamy Brown" across the panel to deepen the creamy color of my cardstock.  The creamy brown is so luscious.  If you are going to add any chalk ink to your collection, add this one.
I also decided to have some fun inside my card.  I heat embossed the edges of my word bubble!  The paper is Teresa Collins® "Now and Then" Collection.
 These are the products I used:
ClearSnap® Products
ColorBox® Cat's Eye Chalk Ink Pads: Yellow Citrus, Burnt Sienna
Teresa Collins™ ColorBox® Pigment Ink Pad: Fiesty Red
ColorBox® Top Boss™Clear Embossing Ink
ColorBox® Embossing Powder: Copper
ClearSnap® Teresa Collins Wood Mount Stamps: Be Fearless and Love
Craftwell® Products
Teresa Collins™ Collection A4 Embossing Folder: Twill Herringbone
Teresa Collins™Products
Teresa Collins™"Now and Then" 6"x6" Designer Pad
Other Supplies and Tools:
Die cutting/embossing machine
Cream colored Card Stock
Kraft Card Stock
Dies:  Word Bubble, Dress Form (or dies of your choice)
Ribbon, Glue, Double-sided Foam Tape or squares
Paper Trimmer
Heat Gun
The Tutorial Can be found on the ClearSnap® Blog!
DIY Organic Serving Tray - A Natural Approach to Fun Summer Dining
Hello, Crafty Peeps!
I can't believe I am already at the end of my first month as a Guest Blogger for ClearSnap®.   I am having a blast working with their amazing products and enjoying the opportunity to participate in cross promotions with great companies like CardMaker® Magazine and this week with Basswood®.   What a boost for my creative soul!
DIY Organic Serving Tray - Using Ink Like Paint
This is a delightful way to enjoy a snack in the backyard.  I have used my tray twice since it's completion.  There is a brocade-like design in the tray that plays well against the light.
It feels good to work with Pigment Inks again.   ClearSnap® has an array of fabulous in-house Pigment Ink Products as well as Teresa Collins and Ann Butler.
 Another "The Hubster" Story.
When I received my products for the ClearSnap® and Basswood® Cross Promotion, The Hubster picked up my Basswood Country Round and asked:
Hubster:  "What are you supposed to do with a big hunk of wood?
Me:          "It is not a hunk of wood, it is a tree slice and you know that."
Hubster:  "Yeah, well, maybe, but it isn't even big enough for your buddy, Tom,
                  to use to make one his crazy tables."
Me:          "Tom's tables are very pretty," I replied. " And I have to fabricate the
                  project on my own so Tom would be of no help! You know that, too."
Hubster:  "Well, I'll tell you what I don't know."
Me:           (with attitude)"What?"
Hubster:  "I don't know what the hell you are going to do with that big hunk of wood."
I wonder, sometimes, if  The Hubster understands the meaning of "Blunt Force Trauma!"
While you are there, check out  Rose's fabulous "Welcome" plaque.
Cardmaker® Magazine and ClearSnap® "All About Chalk" Blog Hop
Hello, Crafty Peeps!
It truly does not get any better than this!
"All About Chalk"
I knew my time as a Guest Blogger with ClearSnap® would be exciting but this is an excitement extra!   I love stationery, I love Chalk Inks, I love Africa and Kenya is one of my favorite countries! Just imagine my delight when I learned I would have the opportunity to combine these three passions in a design for this hop!
KENYA
A CHALK INK TRIBAL STATIONERY SET
  Africa is rich in natural resources and beautiful, engaging people.  I drew inspiration from the rich colors used in tribal clothing, particularly among the Maasai, a pastoral tribe famous for their authentic culture.  They defied modern culture to retain their traditional way of life.
The vibrant colors of the ColorBox® Chalk Ink Pads made it easy to bring the essence of the Maasai Tribe and the country of Kenya to my stationery design. I wanted to create an organic project that would bring my three loves together in an elegant presentation.
Tutorial Supplies
STEP TUTORIAL
  • Start with an empty Stationery box (or create one.)   Link: DIY A2 BOX
  • Cover the interior and exterior of the lid and tray with either white gesso or a white chalk paint. For my project, I used an off-white chalk paint.  You can make your own chalk paint. Link: DIY Chalk Paint
Use a ColorBox® Stylus tool to apply the desired ink colors to the box top and tray.
  • Apply your stencil design.  For my "woven" design, I used ink colors: Alabaster, Red Barn, and Guacamole from the PaintBox® "Mercantile." The Alabaster ink is actually an off white, but when stenciled on the black background it looks almost silver.  This was an unintended consequence but I like it.
  • Depending on the intricacy of your stencils, you will need to use daubers, blenders, and the Stylus tool to apply your inks.
  • Embellish your project as desired.  I cut my letters from heavy weight chipboard and applied a coat of gesso prior to applying my chalk ink.
  • seal the box with two applications of an acrylic spray sealant.
  • Use your stencils to create the desired number of stationery sheets.  I created four of each (notecards, Full Sheets (6"x6"),  Short Sheets (4"x6") in each stencil design.  I used an Antique Laid Paper for the stationery.  The texture communicates the strength and resolve of the Maasai!  The Zebra design was created using the ColorBox® Art Screen - Cobblestone
