Mini Folder Lap Desk - Graphic 45 Birdsong

Hey Crafty Peeps,

I have wanted to create using the G45 Birdsong collection for quite a while.  I have a project in progress that is not working out as I would like, so, I put that on hold and decided to do this instead.  I am not an architect or engineer, etc., and the engineer to whom I am married, insists that I use my brain and work these things out for myself.  So after approaching this project the long way, I looked at my final project and realized that all I really needed to do was use the double dutch fold layout and simply bump up the size and add the spines.  Oh well....(sigh)!  I am thinking about adding a stamp holder and a place for post it notes.

The front of the folder is covered with clear contact paper. The stamps and cut outs  are beneath the contact paper.  The chipboard embellishments are on top of the contact paper.

I had fun creating my little notebook.  I didn't want to use chipboard on the back of my black card stock, so I cut up a brown folder and used that.  The color is a better match for the collection.  The big metal embellishment is an ear ring.  I don't know why I both these earrings, they are so NOT ME, but makes a nice embellishment.

I cut regular notebook paper down to the size I needed. It is lined, but the lines don't show up here.

I am working on my share video for youtube.  There are a lot of construction pictures! :D)  Thanks for stopping by!

Spring Fling

Hey, Crafty Peeps,

This week at Crafter's Cafe Challenge Blog, we are introducing a new sponsor, Fred She Said Stamps. Our theme is an ATC or a Fat Page.  I don't scrap, but my understanding is that a Fat Page has to be 4x4 and you pile a lot of stuff on it.   Well I made a Fat Card.  It is 4 x 4 and I put on a lot of embellishments and added tags outside and inside.

This adorable image, Just Emma, is by Fred She Said.  You can also  purchase Emma and Rosie.

I promised my self, no more green, but like most promises, pledges and resolutions, that only lasted until I forgot! :D)   I am, however, remaining faithful to my pledge to use my stash and to try and all the paper in one stack.  I am working on the Couture 6x6 pad by S.E.I.  I used it in this project and for my project on Monday for the Outlawz Greetings Challenge.

I wanted to add a lot of tags to this card, and there are actually four tags in all (Only two are pictured here)  I created two 3" item tags and two round scalloped tags.  One round tag lives on the front of the card behind the image and the other round tag lives inside the card in the pocket with the two 3" tags.

The image on the back of the tag is a partner to the sentiment.  The second tag has a different sentiment and image.Supplies Used: Image: "Just Emma" by Fred She Said. Cardstock:  Colorplan Pistachio, Neenah Natural White, Neenah Smooth White. Design Paper:  S.E.I. Couture                Dies: Spellbinders' Scalloped Squares Small, Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish, Tim Holtz Tattered Florals.  Punches: Fiskars' Medium Scallop Circle.  Inks: Squeezed Lemonade DI and Mowed Lawn DI, Perfect Pearl Mint-Glimmer Mist, Copic Markers, White Chalk. Ribbons: American Crafts. Stamps: Unity Stamp Itty Bitty "Butterfly Kisses". Embossing Folder: Cuttlebug "Oriental Weave.  "Other Embellishments: Flair Adhesive Badge (Flower center), Want2Scrap Baby Bling Pearls,

Express Your Faith, Hopes, Dreams

Hi, Crafty Peeps!  This week the Outlawz Greetings Team challenges members to create a card that expresses their Faith, Hopes, or Dreams.  I chose to use Bugaboo's Faith Block!

I decided I wanted to make each flower a different color.  Hope is red because to me Hope is Faith untested.  Once Faith has been tested, it blooms and softens, tempered by knowledge and maturity; therefore, I see it in soft shades of pink. G-d's Love is unfathomable to me.  Like the Peace of G-d, His love surpasses all human understanding. It encompasses all shades, tone, hues..all colors.  I chose Lavender, because to me it is Regal.
The First Passover Seder is Monday night and for eight days those of us who practice the Jewish faith, will celebrate the exodus from Egypt and the many miracles that were manifested through Faith, Hope and Love!  To my Jewish friends, Chag Samaech!

Sentimental Journey Home

Hi, Crafty Peeps,

I have been practicing the tile technique and this is one of my efforts.  It didn't turn out exactly as I wanted, but I am posting it anyway.  It will be nice to look at it a few months from now when, hopefully, I have improved on my technique!

I have had this scenic stamp for over 10 years and just never used it because I don't think I am so proficient at coloring scenescapes.  Fortunately, using it this way, I didn't have to pick up a Copic.

Large tiles like this are more dramatic when done with brighter colors, such as blue and white, but sepia is more appropriate for the theme of this card.

To add some dimension to the project, I used the Memory Box  Country House Die.  I applied Versamark to both sides, and wet embossed it with dark brown embossing powder.  I used my craft knife to reinforce the cuts for the doors and shutters on the top windows.  I am still thinking about the butterflies and may ultimately remove them before this goes into the stationery box.

Since this is a component of a stationery set, I left the inside mostly unadored.

Supplies:
Memory Box Country House Die
Sizzix Butterflies Die #12
Fab Scraps Scrapping Goodies
Ranger Archival Ink - Sepia
Unity Stamp
Neenah Cardstock - Natural White and Versamark Watermark Stamp Pad
Hug Snug Rayon Seam Binding

Tim Holtz - Tattered Florals Challenge= It's About Time

 Hi, Crafty Peeps,

I created this project for the Tim Holtz Blog Challenge - Tattered Florals.
The Tattered Florals were cut from Crinoline and sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Originally, I planed to moisten the crinoline and crinkle my flowers, but I was so pleased with how they opened up after I balled them up dry, that I decided to leave them alone.

I had some strips of kraft paper left over after cutting my card size, and to remain true to my pledge to use up my "leftovers", I decided I would use one piece for a belly band.  I used my scor-bug to pierce it and punched the holes through with my Tonic Pick.  I used Sew Easy floss for the stitching.   The Clock face beneath the flower was cut from my 6x6 pad.  After all the embellishments were on, I had this negative space in the upper left hand corner .  I tried a lot of things but was not happy.  Finally, I decided that what this composition needed was a piece that was complimentary to the belly band.  So I stitched a shorter piece, attached a Bo Bunny Time Piece Brad and secured it to the card with Scor Tape and Foam Squares.

The interior was photographed on it's side, intentionally.

Rebirth of Spring -Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2013 - March

Rebirth of Spring
Hi, Crafty Peeps,

So here is tag #3 of 12!  I don't do Easter, so the bunny was out.  I  decided I would focus on the beauty of nature and G-d's renewal and rebirth of flowers, the rich greens of trees and shrubs and of course, there had to be butterflies.

The smaller butterflies were embossed with Sizzix Peppermint Twist and the larger butterfly was embossed with Sizzix Scallops & Lines.  All were sponged with distress inks and then sealed with Glossy Accents.  The grass was cut with MS Fringe Scissors and sponged with Mowed Lawn and Iced Spruce Distress Ink!
I was trying to capture some of the early colors of spring and the yellow that I wanted was that color you see on buds when they go from pale yellow to green (and sometimes the opposite) just before they mature and start to open.  I used Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Iced Spruce and Pickett Fence to achieve this color.  I must say I had lots of fun working on this simple tag!

Supplies: Ranger Tag #8, Regular Item Tag; Sizzix Ornate Label, Sizzix Butterfly #12, Tim Holtz Alterations Movers and Shapers Mini Butterflies; Distress Inks: Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, Squeezed Lemonade, Bundled Sage, Gathered Twigs; Ranger Pickett Fence Stain; Spellbinders' Ribbon Banners, Memory Box Dancing Tulips Die, Poppy Stamps Wildflower Patch Die, Glossy Accents, embossing folders, brads, foam tape, MS Fringe scissors.  The image on the base tag was created by placing three stamps from  Heartfelt Creations' Carnation Florals 2 on the same block and stamping them with Memento Potter's Clay Dye Ink.  I then brayed Pickett Fence Stain over the stamped images, wiped it down with a baby wipe and then stamped the images again.

My fingers are still stained with ink from my efforts to match the color of my ribbon to the base of my tag.
I like really crinkled ribbon, and have found the best technique to get the look I want is to squeeze the wet ribbon into a tight ball, place it in the corner of a small sandwich bag and twist tightly.  I secure mine with a twist tie and let it set** over night.  The next morning I remove the ribbon from the bag and allow it to air dry.  Because the ribbon is so tightly coiled, you are able to manipulate it without fear of losing the bounce.
The ribbon was colored using glimmer mist made from the ink stains listed above mixed with Perfect Pearls and it was also dabbed with Pickett Fence Stain!

Hope you like it!  Thanks for stopping by!

Hugz,
Chana
**For the English majors, I used "set" because I was referring to the crinkles "setting". :D)

Crafter's Cafe Challenge Blog

Hello, Crafty Peeps,

I may never make anything using the color green ever again! (LOL).  I needed to make a gift for my SIL and I thought this little basket and recipe wallet would be nice.  Please join us this week at The Crafter's Cafe Challenge Blog.  We are being sponsored by Rick St. Dennis and you could win some of his yummy digitals!

Through The Craftroom Door - Tutorial

Shadow Box Book Card with 3D Effect

Hi, Crafty Peeps,

This month I did a tutorial for Through The Craft Room Door Magazine, an online magazine owned by  my friend, Colleen.  If you are not a subscriber, I would recommend that you check it out.  Each issue is packed full of tutorials, projects, and free digital images from wonderful artists.

It is difficult to see in the photos, but there is a piece of plastic in the middle of the books card.  Objects are attached on top and underneath the plastic and on the base of the book card.  This creates a 3 dimensional effect.  I will post the Step Tutorial Tomorrow!
