Shopping Our Stash Weekly Challenge - Use The Smooshing Technique

Hello, Crafty Makers!
This SOS Challenge features one of my favorite techniques: Smooshing!
Of course, I had to create two cards for this challenge!

Smooshing is a  fun way to create a "faux" watercolor look especially for non-painters like me. The technique works with all ink types.
I admire the work of Tammy Tutterow and was so happy when she joined Spellbinders® Stamp Designers.  This is my favorite, I think!

Stash Items Used:
Bazzill Basics - Hummingbird
Neenah - Natural White
Tim Holtz™ - Water Color Paper
Tammy Tutterow™ (for Spellbinders®) Be Sunny
Ranger Distress Inks: Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Shabby Shutters, Mowed Lawn, Scattered Straw, and Vintage Photo
Glossy Accents (just a drop)
Water
I laminated a piece of cardstock and used that as a proof sheet for mixing my colors.   I applied the ink directly to my acetate sheet, spritzed it with water and then "smooshed" it on the cardstock.

 Smoosh, Splatter, Swipe and Emboss
Two years ago, I was a Guest Designer for ClearSnap®.  One of their partners at the time was Hot Off The Press™ and they sent this fabulous "Feathers" stamp set to all the designers.  I have provided the link to Paper Wishes which is the site for HOTP retail customers.

Stash Items Used:
Bazzill Basic - Wild Pansey
PaperTrey - White Cardstock
Paper Wishes™ "Feathers" Stamps w/Sentiments
Tim Holtz Rub On - Elements
ColorBox® - White Embossing Powder
 Distress Inks:  Milled Lavender, Scattered Straw, Dried Marigold, Cracked Pistachio!
Water
For this card front, I applied the ink to my laminated sheet, spritzed with water and then applied the diluted ink to the card front.  I wanted more control and I wanted to do more splashing, wiping and splattering than smooshing.  Some designers like to have a plan before they smoosh.  I just freestyle!

CAS Colours and Sketches - Take Flight

Hello, Crafty Makers!
Today, I crafted two cards for submission to
CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge.
~~~~~~~~~
 For my first design, I used the smoosh technique with Ranger Distress Oxide Inks to create my "faux" watercolored background.  I arranged my feather stamps using my Tim Holtz Stamping Tool.  I had only four small stamps in this collection, so I had to stamp twice but using the tool made short work of that.  I added Wink of Stella to the feathers and I was done!
Note Card Size: 4.25"x5.5", Panel Size: 4.0"x5.25"
Panel:
Materials:
Hot Off The Press "Feathers" Stamp Collection
Neenah "Ebony" and "Brilliant White" Linen Cardstock
Wink of Stella
Ranger Distress Oxide Inks:
Peeled Paint, Fossilized Amber, Broken China
Other Inks:
Ranger Distress Ink: Vintage Photo, StazOn Solvent "Jet Black"
~~~~~~~~
For this second project, I first stamped and heat embossed the feathers and sentiment.  Then, I painted my background using my distress inks.  I felt the white spaces needed to be toned down to allow the white embossed feathers to stand out more.  I achieved this by lightly dabbing Vintage Photo Distress Ink on most of the white spaces and to distress the edges of the panel. The final touch was to stamp a few star sprays around a few of the feathers and apply a little Wink of Stella to my feathers.  I was going for an abstract presentation and I think I got there.
Note Card Size: 4.25"x5.5", Black Layer: 4.0"x5.25 Panel Size: 4-3/8"x 5-1/8"
Panel:
Materials:
Hot Off The Press "Feathers" Stamp Collection
Neenah "Ebony" and Brilliant White Linen Cardstock
White Embossing Powder, Wink of Stella
Ranger Distress Oxide Inks:
Peeled Paint, Fossilized Amber, Broken China
Other Inks:
Ranger Distress Ink: Vintage Photo, StazOn Solvent "Jet Black"

Happy Making!

Clearsnap Coloring Book Page - Coloring with Inks and Chalks

Hello, Crafty Peeps,
I have taken another journey into the world of coloring book pages and I am so pleased with my results.  Thanks to the generosity of Clearsnap® and their partner, Hot Off The Press, I have tons of fabulous adult pages to explore and grow my skills.

I hope you find inspiration in this project.  The Hot Off The Press Coloring pages are great.  I liked the thickness of the paper which made me feel more confident apply color and the color did not bleed through.

I used ColorBox® Chalk Inks and Clearsnap® Smooch "pearlized" Inks to color this image.  You can find the tutorial HERE on the Clearsnap Blog.

Thanks for stopping by!
