Yesterday, I created a card for the Double D Gingham Challenge. Since one of my goals in 2019 is to use up as much of my scrap stash as I possibly can, I decided to do some paper piecing and create this little tag using the scraps from "Country Gingham" card.
Gingham Cowgirl
I really had forgotten how much I like paper piecing! I haven't used my Copics in so long they were mostly dry and I did not have the refills for these colors so my girl is a little spotty. I like her though because my disease has caused some crazy pigmentation on my face and I am a little spotty these days...maybe I was projecting!😄
Here is a quick card I made for the Gingham theme over at
Double D Challenges. I am using one of my unbranded dies and I love the way this project turned out. Nothing fancy but I was able to reduce my 6"x6" paper stack by two pieces. I am working on a tag to enter as well. Two projects only two sheets of paper.
I am on a roll! Hopefully, in April, I will create projects that will increase my confidence in layering fancy intricate dies.
Rustic Love
I am a great lover of Kraft card. I think it goes so well with almost any color and is particularly effective if you are going for the 'rustic' country look. I usually save my gingham paper for paper piecing. I am glad that I stepped out of that particular little box and tried something different.
My original intention was to leave the white hearts blank but I needed to pull more of the Kraft card into the design so I added the Love sentiment and switched my tag from white to Kraft and added the twine bow. I plan to make a second card using the gingham frame. That should be fun.
This week's Hearts on Fire challenge at Shopping Our Stash presents a rare opportunity to create a project (not related to Valentine's Day) using one of the five hundred or so heart shaped dies and/or stamps languishing in your stash. Of course, if you simply cannot help yourself, a Valentine project will work!
A Kraft Heart Themed Wrap Card
Once again, my love of Kraft card stock is on full display. I really wish the "Brush of Stella™" on the hearts and the score lines had photographed better. All that glitter gives the card a more elegant feel.
Again, so much of the sparkly detail is lost in this photo.
The accents show up better in the video (see below).
You can see a tiny bit of the Stella glow in this one.
I added the Kraft card layer behind the red layer AFTER I had completed and published the video. It is amazing how that one small change made such a big difference in the project's presentation.
Just a quick share today of a project that caught my eye due to its simplicity and because it is constructed with Kraft cardstock!
My "Krafty Keepsake Box"
The original design of the box was from "Mixed Up Craft." She used adhesive wood veneer sheets to give her box the wooden effect but I decided not to do that. This was a "stash reduction" project and I did not want to buy anything.
I particularly like the hinged top. I had planned to give this box as a gift but I had a few "oops" moments and decided I would keep it for my personal use. The velvet paper used to line the bottom has been in my stash for about six years. I was amazed at how perfectly it matched my CS.
Isn't this just a terrific die cut? The die is made by Xcut and is called "Floral Panel." The tropical foliage themed paper worked quite well.
My little project found a home in the sitting area of my master bedroom. A few of my other projects have found a home on my dressing table.
This is a basic box project, but if you want to follow the original tutorial, click HERE
Kraft faux leather using basketweave embossing folder.
This week, at Shopping Our Stash, we want to see how you use your favorite crafting "things." If you are anything like me, you have "hundreds" of favorite things so the most difficult part of this challenge will be the act of narrowing the choices.
Basic Materials Used: (to create faux leather)
Kraft Paper
Glycerine
Glue
Liquitex Professional Gloss Varnish
Distress Ink: Vintage Photo, Black Soot
Kraft/Faux Leather/ Traveler's Notebook
I made this TN as a birthday gift for my daughter. The project allowed me to use my favorite technique, creating faux leather using Kraft paper, and several other of my favorites like embossing folders, ClearSnap Smooch Inks, and anything Tim Holtz.
I love how this process gives the designer a beautiful emboss on the front and equally pretty deboss on the back.
I used Tim Holtz® Distress Inks™to color the cover. Almost all colors will work. Sheena has a beautiful blue faux leather notebook on her YouTube channel. The possibilities are endless. You can use the regular DI no need to buy oxides, etc. I used a clear acrylic sealer (three (3) coats) on both the inside and outside of my TN cover.
The sunflowers were colored using ClearSnap® Smooch™inks
The texture is determined by how much "scrunching" you do when your paper is wet.
Ink applied after the paper has dried can be used to add depth to specific areas of the design. The embellishment was made using a slide and layering a brad on it.
Some Fun Stuff on The Inside
Creating the dashboards and inserts for this project also gave me the opportunity to use my new favorite thing, Stickers!!
This image actually reminds me of my daughter.
Gotta love the back of that blouse!
The backing on inside of the TN is muslin I decided to leave it untreated and opted to create pockets using a printed acetate sheet. I am just in love with this image.
Fun papers make interesting insert covers.
Pen Loop
Another favorite thing, making pen loops. This one was made from a piece of the faux leather shown at the top of this post

This is the definitive faux leather process tutorial.

Good Morning, Cardies! My teammate, Kim, over at Guylou's Inimitability challenged us to create a CAS card using Kraft Cardstock. Although I know it is very popular in crafting, I don't own a lot of Kraft paper. You would have gotten quite a giggle watching me destroy my studio looking for a pack of paper I just "knew" I purchased at Michaels during one of their sales. It did not help that my DH was standing there with this little smirk on his face saying, "which sale, Hon? The Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Weekend Sale? Last week, This week? I'm just trying to help jog your memory. Oh, I have an idea, why don't you look at your Credit Card Statement...that should help!" I cannot believe that I have been crazy in love with this man for 43 years! Must have been something I ate! :D)
Anyway, I deported DH from my studio, found my Kraft paper and then spent two days unable to come up with a design. Guylou just gave the team a wonderful collection of new images (she is so generous) but nothing was coming out right. Finally, I decided that I would just make a really simple, basic card that I could give to one of my staff who just had a birthday. She likes anything with "fairies" and I thought this would be perfect!
