Shopping Our Stash Weekly Challege - Hot, Hot, Hot! - Stamp/Embossing on Vellum

Hello, Happy Makers!
The SOS challenge this week is full of fun!  Just make it hot, which means it could be spicy foods or weather-related.  You can use the word HOT if you so desire.  Be creative.  We can't wait to see!
~~~~~~~
  I used a Jennifer McGuire tutorial for this project.
The background was created using a stencil stamped with a pink solvent ink.  The ink was partially heat set and air dried. After the ink dried, I repositioned the stencil and applied VersaMark and then embossed with an opalescent embossing powder.
 This view shows the beautiful colors in the background using the Opalescent Clear embossing powder.
It is difficult to photograph glitter but you can kinda-sorta see the pretty result achieved by applying Wink of Stella™ to the little puddles and foliage.
Materials used:
Hero Arts® Color Layering Flamingo
Hero Arts® Frame Cuts® Flamingo Die
ColorBox® Art Screens "Rooftop" Stencil
ColorBox® Opalescent Clear Embossing Powder
Inkadinkado Washable Ink - Hot Pink
Papertrey Ink LinenVellum Cardstock
Note: Use whatever supplies you have on hand.  With the exception of the die frame and stamps, I have had  the other materials for over ten years.   I was surprised the ink pads were still viable.
So glad you stopped by!
Happy Making!
Shopping Our Stash - The 4 Elements - Earth, Wind, Fire, Water
Hello, Crafty Folks!
IT'S STASH REDUCTION TIME
WELCOME,  New SOS Design Team members!
The Shopping Our Stash Team has a wonderful talent for coming up with offbeat challenge themes.   I usually get stuck trying to come up with a suitable project and this week was no exception.  I finally chose WIND and EARTH as my ELEMENTS.  This was a fun project and I had a chance to use the Emboss/Resist Technique.
You only need to choose ONE element but feel free to incorporate as many as you can/want in one project.   Please let us know your element choice.
Wind and Earth Elements Tag
Using the Emboss/Resist Technique.
 The element WIND is represented by the Butterflies.  Some are hiding in the forest!
I love to watch these elegant, beautiful insects as they float gracefully on air and then land gently on a limb, rose, or on your finger, if you are lucky!
The Green Ink is more of my Earth Element.
Stash Items:  Graphic 45 Product Backing Card.  An Irregular piece of cheese cloth leftover from another project was colored with chalk ink and used as ribbon.
The back of the tag was colored with ColorBox® Pigment Ink - Ocean - from the Taos Paintbox®.  The edges were inked with ColorBox® Fluid Chalk Ink - Pumpkin Spice.
What Was Done
This is a stash item!  Whenever I purchase carded items, I save the cards to use as tags.  The card is glossy so I covered it with a layer of gesso.
I embossed the card  using the WRMK® Next Level™ Embossing Folder
COLORING THE TAG
  • Use the ColorBox®  Color Blender™ to apply your  Paintbox® inks.  For this project, I used colors from ColorBox® Chalk Paintbox®  Mercantile™(Alabaster, Red Barn, Guacamole, Sea Crystal) and Pigment Paintbox® Taos (Amber and Chianti)
  • Add ColorBox® Fluid Chalk Ink - Pumpkin Spice.  (I blended colors until I achieved a "forest" background.)
  • Heat Set the inks.
  • Place ColorBox® Top Boss™ Clear  Embossing Pad directly on the tag and skim across the top.  Do not apply too much pressure.
  • Sprinkle clear embossing powder over the tag, shake off excess powder and then use your heat gun to melt EP.
  • Spritz card with complementary colors and blot away excess.
  • Sand around the edges of the tag to remove some of the melted embossing powder.  Ink the edges.
  • Use SMOOCH® to paint my die cut sentiment.
  • To add more color to the embossed images, paint the inside wings with Liquid Pearls®.  Also use Liquid Pearls® to trim the butterfly wings.
Thanks so much for stopping by!  If you decide to try the emboss resist technique, share your project results with me at A Place To Start in our Neverending Challenge!
613 Avenue Create- Challenge #156 - Anything Goes w/Optional Twist - Use Music Symbols
Good Morning, Crafty Peeples,
This week, the Design Team at 613 Avenue Create would love to see you create a project that incorporates, Musical Symbols, Sheet Music, Lyrics, etc.
I am late with my post.  I wasn't actually scheduled to post a project this week, but,
yesterday, I learned that Leslie Hanna, the owner of the Shopping Our Stash Challenge Blog, died Christmas afternoon.  Her death was sudden and unexpected and has left us all in a state of shock.  My teammates and I are still trying to imagine SOS without her.
Goodbye, my dear friend.  Rest in the arms of G-d!
I am not sure what influenced the creative side of my brain while working on this tag.
I started with a piece of sheet music torn from one of my clarinet study books.
I haven't had my clarinet against my lips in years.
I think I might......in 2016, baruch hashem, pick it up again.
Thanks for Stopping by!  I would love to see your entry at
Everything Will Come Together - OUTLAWZ GREETINGS CHALLENGE - USE 2 OR MORE INCHIES
Hello, Crafty Peeples!
Well, you know you are getting old when you think you've posted a project!   I am here with a quick post of my DT make for The Outlawz Greetings Challenge.    We want you to create a project using 2 or more inchies.   Inchies were all the rage a few years back and it is nice to revisit "old" friends.   I actually plan to try to incorporate inches into some of my future mixed media projects.  It would probably add great depth.
 The Stamp: Whatever The Weather  by Unity Stamp Company (Itty Bitty Stamp Club)
I just added a little drywall tape and stencils for depth and texture.  The drywall tape has gold accents, but that did not translate so well when I took the pictures.. alas!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Shopping Our Stash - Not Your Usual Paper
Good Morning, Crafty Peeples!
This week at Shopping Our Stash, the challenge is:
Use papers that are not the usual ones you use in your crafting.
For my project, I have chosen Burlap paper, cereal box scraps,  and Wallpaper.
When I first began making cards back in 1998, I used wallpaper exclusively in my designs.  It is rather funny now when I survey the thousands of dollars I have invested in this craft buying dies and cutting machines
This is actually the beginning of a cover for my Project Ideas Notebook.
I will add the closer when the back cover is completed.
The plan is to use all burlap paper on the back
I love cutting bouquets from the paper and using them on projects.
 The borders are also good for trims.
Thanks for stopping by!   Hope to see your entry in the challenge!
Shopping Our Stash - Hide And Seek
Hello, Crafty Peeples,
The current challenge at SHOPPING OUR STASH:
 Use a Hidden Element or
a Photo of Someone Playing HIDE AND SEEK
SOAR AND TRUST DOOR HANGER
This project is not about physical travel,  but rather,  about emotional and spiritual journeys.
Creatively, in 2015,  I plan to SOAR.  My "TRUST" ticket reminds me to trust my passion and my ability to put that passion into my designs.
The Hide and Seek Theme of the challenge this week is perfect for my design.
Sometimes my creativity plays "Hide and Seek."
Bon Voyage will remind me that I can always take flight in a different direction.
The slide out panel and hot air balloons were made from recycled corrugated cardboard boxes.
The blue balloon was stamped on cardboard and then again on heat resistant acetate.
I was very pleased with my decoupaged ribbon.  It takes a lot of Mod Podge to achieve just the right stiffness, but I did help it along by adding several coats of fabric stiffener.
I use Aleene's Stiffen Quik.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will play along with us this week at
THE OUTLAWZ GREETINGS TEAM - NON TRADITIONAL X-MAS COLORS
Hello, Crafty Peeps!
The challenge at the Outlawz Greetings  this week is: Non-Traditional Christmas Colors!
I am Jewish, so  I created a Chanukah Tag instead.
 Chanukah (which started at sundown on 12/16)
will end at sundown on December 24th.  We have very few one day observances.
Over 2100 years ago, the Land of Israel was dominated by the Seleucids (Syrian-Greeks) who sought to Hellenize the people of Israel. Against all odds, a small band of faithful Jews defeated one of the mightiest armies on earth, drove the Greeks from the land, reclaimed the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and rededicated it to the service of G-d.
Hoping to light the Temple's menorah, they found only a single cruse of olive oil that had escaped contamination by the Greeks; miraculously, this one-day supply burned for eight days, until new oil could be prepared under conditions of ritual purity.
The Greeting on this tag is: Chag (Festival)  Sameach (Joyous)
To commemorate and publicize these miracles, the sages instituted the festival of Chanukah. At the heart of the festival is the nightly menorah lighting: a single flame on the first night, two on the second evening, and so on till the eighth night of Chanukah, when all eight lights are kindled.
A special Chanukah prayer Al HaNissim offers praise and thanksgiving to G-d for "delivering the strong into the hands of the weak, the many into the hands of the few... the wicked into the hands of the righteous." It is appropriate to strengthen the hand of the weak by being especially generous with Tzedakah (Charity) at this time.
Menorah lighting was instituted to announce to the entire world that G-d makes miracles for those who stand up for truth and justice. The Chanukah lights can either be candle flames or oil-fueled. The eight candles of the menorah must be arranged in a straight, even line. The candles should burn for at least 30 minutes on weeknights, and up to one-and-a-half hours on Friday (Shabbat) evening.
The shamash - the "attendant" candle that is used to kindle the other lights -
sits a bit higher or lower than the other candles, on the ninth branch of the menorah.
Men and women alike are obligated to participate in the menorah lighting
Since oil played a significant role in the Chanukah story, it is traditional to enjoy oily foods on this holiday. Among the most popular are potato latkes (pancakes) and sufganiot (deep-fried doughnuts)  It is also customary to play Chanukah dreidel (spinning top) a throwback to the times when the Greek armies of King Antiochus banned the study of Torah.
When the Syrian authorities were patrolling,
Jewish children would hide their books and play with their tops to deceive the enemy.
Our Chanukah dreidel games are a salute to these Jewish heroes of yore.
Drediel is often played with money or Chanukah Gelt. **
~~~~~~
I was so happy with the effect I achieved when I sprayed Perfect Pearls onto the tag.
It produced that silver shine you see in the recesses of the flowers;
 the silver may look white on some computers.
And, of course, I had to have Chanukah Gelt.  I made some of them purple-gold.

Thanks for stopping by!
Hugz,
Chana Malkah
Yes, my name and Chanukah share the same Hebrew root. So it is pronounced HA NAH.
Chana = Highly Favored of G-d
Malkah = Queen

Sunshine On A Cloudy Day - Shopping Our Stash - Another Brown Lunch Bag Card

Good Morning, Crafty Peeples
The Theme this week at Shopping Our Stash is
"Sunshine On A Cloudy Day!"
I was born at the tail end of 1949, came of age in the 1960's, and lived in Philadelphia, PA.  You say to me "I've Got Sunshine On A Cloudy Day"  I say to you " MY GIRL!  The TEMPS!"
Philadelphia, in the mid to late 60's, where on any given Friday night, on any corner, one could find boy groups, girl groups, mixed groups, and some odd groups, all gathered together in the name of Barry Gordy and Motown.  Everyone could sing, everyone could dance and everyone wanted to be a star.  Except, my father, who mostly just wanted everyone to shut up, go home and stop using the front stoop of his business as an audition studio.

My father would yell, "why don't you go sing in front of your house?" and my sister, Pat, who I always felt harbored some kind of death wish, would answer smugly, "I am singing in front of my house, Pops!"

Adding to Dad's frustration was the knowledge that there were always a couple of cops there, leaning against their patrol cars, making song requests (instead of clearing the sidewalk) and eating the Philly Cheese Steaks they had purchased from HIM (my ungrateful father).

One wonderful weekend each month, The Block Party Talent Show took possession of the dead end street that ran along side my father's restaurant.   Most of the male groups imitated "The Temps." Dad made money hand over fist. Pat and I served customers between our stints as backup singers for various groups.  My Stepmoms and her church friends played Wisk, kept their eyes on the "fast" girls and generally made sure the "heathens" didn't get out of control.  It was planned, impromptu theatre.
As fortune would have it, I met and married a man who had an extensive "mint condition" album collection which included every album and 45 rpm ever released by "The Temps."   Half of which he sold to pay for our dates.  When Jim's Best Friend told me about the sale of the albums, I was able to buy them back... from said Best Friend, who, woefully short of cash, could smell my desperation and managed a nice profit.
At the reception, after I presented the gift of his  "Redeemed Beloved Temps," my husband and a bunch of other very drunken soldiers sang "My Girl" and performed the worst Temptations dance routine in the long, sad history of bad..really bad dance routines.  What A Man, What A Man, What A Mighty Good Man!

This was a fun challenge. Hubby and I had a blast reminiscing about our time in the military, our wedding, and all the albums he sold to keep me in chili dogs and Pepsi at "Sue and Herb's Drive In Diner" at Fort Hauchuca, Arizona.
 Somebody owes somebody a trip to Paris!

Shopping Our Stash - Create Your Own Embellishment

Hello, Crafty Peeples!

This week's challenge from our team over at Shopping Our Stash should have great appeal to all crafters.  Creating our own embellishments is something that each of us has been forced to do, mostly out of sheer necessity.  So, what a great chance to do it just because...

I chose to create this faux metallic medallion.  I die cut medallion, pressed it into a Versamark watermark pad, coated it with silver embossing powder and thenheat embossed.  I repeated the process but this time, before the melted powder cooled, I pressed a floral rubber stamp into the center to create my design.  I decided not to get too involved in an image for the front of my project since the focal point is supposed to be my embellishment.  The silhouette is a TH stamp
The Sunflower Stamp and Sentiment on the inside are from Unity Stamp Company's Itty Bitty Stamp Club.  The backing paper is actually the backside of a piece of scrap wallpaper.  I just rubbed Tim Holtz Vintage Photo DI across the surface.  The texture of the paper created a really cool (IRL) look.  It looks like a piece of brown silk.  The wall paper is a silk paper.
Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you will join us this week at Shopping Our Stash!

The Outlawz Greetings Challenge - Anything Goes

Hello, Crafty Peeps!
This is Anything Goes Week at The Outlawz Monday Greetings Challenge.  I am late posting this project, but wanted to share this adorable image by our new sponsor Art By Miran!  I love these images and they have become very popular in a short period of time.

I am committed to using my scraps and not ending up with boxes  of perfectly good paper that I usually end up throwing away when it becomes too much.  I need to come up with a good system for storing pieces that work together.  I got pretty luck with these two, I think.

I managed to keep the embellishments to a minimum.  I toyed with flowers and bows and pearl flourishes, but they all seemed incongruous.  Decided to just let the delightful image pretty much stand it's own.
 I use these Tim Holtz tickets so infrequently.  Thought they might be interesting in this design.  Was concern they might overwhelm the design, but they actually added balance.
Simple banner on the inside finishes off the design.

Outlawz Greetings Challenge - Recipe

Hi, Crafty Peeps!
Well this posting is very late.  I should have posted it on Monday, but I was unhappy with my first effort, so...  Anymahoo, our challenge for you this week, courtesy of Alex, is create a project using the following recipe:  2 Designer Papers, Ribbon, Pearls, and a Sentiment.

 This is the year I try to expand my creative horizons.  I will endeavor to do "cute" and CAS.  Although this is technically not CAS, it is close enough.  I simply love the highlighted border technique and it is perfect for a challenge like this where the sentiment is supposed to be the star!

Whoa, I am so getting into "gussying up" the insides of my cards.  I try to keep it simple though.

Thanks for dropping by!  Hope to see you at the Outlawz!   Hugz, Chana
